Georgia Milestones Analysis

Georgia replaced the CRCT testing with "Milestones" testing. Testing data available starts for year 2014. The new testing method provides similar metrics for measuring performance. Scores are now slightly more granular. While you can't compare CRCT scores against Milestones scores, you can view the relative performance between schools. Visit the DOE website for all the details concerning the new test.

The new percentile measures are "Beginning Learner", "Developing Learner", "Proficient Learner", and "Distinguished Learner". They also have "Developing Learner and Above" and "Proficient Learner and Above" summarizing the scores higher than the respective levels. The two scoring percentiles that people might find most applicable for comparisons between schools are "Proficient Learner and Above" or "Distinguished Learner". Or, you might want to consider schools that have the lowest "Beginning Learner" scores as a way of measuring which schools rescue the students having difficulty (or find reasons to remove). Of course, how you think about measuring a schools performance is very important in how you would want to use the data (or not).

The SQL work is provided for those who want to see background into the work or recreate and verify the results.
